The New York Times Feature

It was a great thrill to be profiled in The New York Times as part of their feature article on magicians during the pandemic. When the writer, Ken Sturtz, approached me about being interviewed I wondered what shape his article would take. In the end it was great to see the current state of magic through his eyes as many magicians deal with set backs caused by issues surrounding COVID-19

Ken interviewed me for The New York Times article for over and hour discussing my work performing for companies like Amazon, NASDAQ, and Google, private performances for celebrities across the country, and some of my international presentations in London and Cuba. Ken has an interest in practing magic and has long been an amateur magician so he understood some of the inside jargon surrounding how I devise the magic pieces that I end up performing. Ken’s writing is engaging and draws in readers who may have never thought to hire a magician for their corporate event.

“Mr. Boyce hadn’t thought of doing virtual shows until a corporate client he’d worked with previously asked him to do one. The response was so positive that he decided virtual could work.”

When the article was set to release the Times’ photo editor scheduled a shoot in Prospect Park coinciding with a recording, I had set up with Hal Schulman who creates most of the videos of my magic. The paper sent the photographer, Pat O’Malley, to capture the essence of what it is I do. Pat is such  an incredible photographer and set up some amazing shots of the magic, including some close up photographs of my sleight of hand.

The article has led to lots of calls from clients looking for a magician in NYC or a the best entertainment for holiday parties. I always love enchanting new audiences with magic so I’m very grateful that the article has brought my work to the attention many new audiences.
